Confirmation is a Catholic sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of baptismal gifts. Like Baptism and Eucharist, it is a Sacrament of Initiation for Catholics and a Sacrament of faith in God's fidelity to us. The Archdiocese of Kansas City recommends that youth in the eighth grade be prepared for reception of this sacrament.

Preparation for Youth

Confirmation is a major step in the development of spiritual growth in Catholics. To facilitate a deeper celebration of this sacrament our parish has set forth certain expectations and requirements for candidates at this point in their faith journey. Each candidate for Confirmation:

  • Participates regularly in spiritual formation, i.e. Holy
    • Trinity School
    • Sunday evening
    • Junior High Faith Formation
    • Other (Home-school, etc.)
  • Is involved in service to the parish and wider community has a sponsor

Our Formation Process includes:

  • Orientation session for Parents
  • Candidate/Sponsor intro session in October
  • Blessing of candidates at Mass Confirmation Retreat for the candidates
  • Stewardship reflection sheets on service
  • Three sessions for candidates and sponsors on the Rite of Confirmation
  • Candidates writing a letter to the Archbishop requesting Confirmation
  • Sacrament of Reconciliation

Confirmation for Adults

Are you aware that there are three sacraments necessary to be a fully initiated Catholic: Baptism, Confirmation, and the final sign, Eucharist? Each year, during the Easter Season, we have adults approach us who are baptized, practicing Catholics, who for whatever reason, never received the sacrament of Confirmation.

In the sacrament of Confirmation one receives a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit; the same Holy Spirit that was granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. Confirmation brings an increase and deepening of baptismal grace; the sacrament that it completes. Without this sacrament a person can deprived of the grace that more firmly unites us to Christ; deepening our friendship with Him. One of the delays in asking the Church for this sacrament is a concern that an adult would have to go through the ceremony with our teenage confirmands.

If you are in that situation, please don’t be concerned; Archbishop Naumann celebrates this sacrament every year at Pentecost with adults. For more information contact Dcn. Start Holland at 913-888-2770 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
